Jim Henson (September 24, 1936 - May 16, 1990) was the creator of the Muppets, founder of The Jim Henson Company, and the performer behind many of his company's most famous characters, including Kermit the Frog, Ernie, and Rowlf the Dog.
James Maury Henson (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990) was an American puppeteer, animator, actor, and filmmaker who achieved worldwide notability as the creator of the Muppets. Henson was also well known for creating Fraggle Rock (1983–1987) and as the director of The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986).
Jim Henson served as founding president of UNIMA-USA (1974-1980), and, in 1975, he proposed that UNIMA-USA create an award, “Citations of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry”, which annually recognize and reward the best of the puppetry arts in the United States.
