Go back and listen to Mitchell on Are You Experienced, the band’s 1967 debut album. Whatever happens, Mitchell goes wherever the guitar goes, relying on instinct as much as technique. And the guitar went wherever Hendrix took it, which meant, of course, that it went to places that hadn’t existed before then.
