Titel je veoma stari grad, na čijem je području bilo ljudskih naseobina u praistoriji. Najstariji poznati pomen imena Titel je iz povelja ugarskih kraljeva i javlja se posle 1077, a najkasnije 1095. godine. U to vreme su mađarski kralj Laslo Prvi (Sent Laslo) i brat mu Lampreht podigli u Titelu manastir najstarijeg katoličkog reda avgustinaca.
Titel je gradsko naselje u opštini Titel u u Južnobačkom okrugu, u regionu poznatom kao Šajkaška, u Autonomnoj Pokrajini Vojvodini u Srbiji. Prema popisu iz 2002. bilo je 5894 stanovnika.
