Ferrante or Ferdinando Gonzaga, first marquess of Castiglione (28 July 1544 - 13 February 1586 [1]) was an Italian nobleman and condottiero . Life. Castle at Castiglione delle Stiviere. Born in Castel Goffredo, he was the second son of Aloisio Gonzaga and Caterina Anguissola.
Ferrante I Gonzaga, detto anche Ferrando, conte di Guastalla e principe di Molfetta, è stato un nobile e condottiero italiano, uomo di fiducia dell'imperatore Carlo V d'Asburgo che lo nominò Viceré di Sicilia dal 1535 al 1546 e Governatore di Milano dal 1546 al 1554; dal 1539 fu sovrano della Contea di Guastalla.

Gonzaga was the son of Ferrante de Gonzaga (1544–1586), Marquis of Castiglione, and Dona Marta Tana di Santena, daughter of a baron of the Piedmontese Della Rovere family. His mother was a lady-in-waiting to Isabel, the wife of Philip II of Spain . As the first-born son, he was in line to inherit his father's title and status of Marquis. [1] .
