The House is perhaps the most famous stately home in Norfolk and is at the heart of the 8,000 hectare Sandringham Estate. 24 hectares of which make up the woodland and heath of the Sandringham Royal Park, open to the public every day of the year.

  2. The site has been occupied since Elizabethan times, when a large manor house was constructed. This was replaced in 1771 by a Georgian mansion for the owners, the Hoste Henleys. In 1836 Sandringham was bought by John Motteux, a London merchant, who already owned property in Norfolk and Surrey.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had decided that he should move from the family home to a house of his own.
