8 ago 2018 · The first Thatcher ministry was marked by continuing economic turmoil in Great Britain. Unemployment rose from 1.4 million in 1979 to three million in 1982, while the annual inflation rate in 1980 was 20% (which would fall to 4.9% in 1983) (Milling 2012: 4–5).

Fate. Thatcher had the option of waiting until May 1984 before calling a general election, but the opinion polls remained in her favour as 1983 dawned and so she called a general election for 9 June.
