Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk KG PC (1443 – 21 May 1524), styled Earl of Surrey from 1483 to 1485 and again from 1489 to 1514, was an English nobleman, soldier and statesman who served four monarchs.

In 1397, it was given to Thomas Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk, by King Richard II. And when the Mowbray line became extinct, it passed eventually to the Howard family. Major repairs to this castle were carried out in 1485 by John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk (second creation).
THOMAS HOWARD, EARL OF SURREY AND 2ND DUKE OF NORFOLK. BORN: 1443. DIED: 1524. Son of John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk. Supported Richard III at Bosworth and was imprisoned in the Tower, but was eventually reinstated and was afterwards loyal to to the Tudors. Fought and won at Flodden Field against the Scots.
