Nymburk and its brewery was made famous by writer Bohumil Hrabal. Nymburk, founded around 1275 as a royal city, is located at the mouth of the Mrlina river and the Elbe (Czech: Labe). The town is situated on both banks of the Elbe River and lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Mrlina rivers. It was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War.
