  3. 11 mar 2024 · Used by the kings of France from the 12th century, the hunting lodge of Fontainebleau, standing in the heart of the vast forest of the Ile-de-France in the Seine-et-Marne region, was transformed, enlarged and embellished in the 16th century by King François I, who wanted to make it a “new Rome”.

  6. The chateau is open every day except Tuesday, January 1 st, May 1 st and December 25 th. From October to March: 9.30 am to 5 pm (last access at 4.15 pm). From April to September: 9.30 am to 6 pm (last access at 5.15 pm). The park and gardens are open, under the usual conditions, free of charge.
