Sofia City Province (Bulgarian: Област София-град, romanized: Oblast Sofiya-grad) is a province of Bulgaria. Its administrative center is the city of Sofia, the capital of the country. The province borders on Sofia Province and Pernik Province. It consists of only one municipality – the Sofia Capital Municipality.

Sofia is the capital and the largest city of Republic of Bulgaria. Sofia means wiseness in Greek language and in Ancient Greek language. It has 1.3 million people. It is the 15th largest city of the European Union. Sofia is in the west of Bulgaria.
At the end of the 3rd century AD, it became the capital of the province of Inner Dacia. The city suffered the incursions of Huns, Goths and other barbarian tribes in the 5th–6th century period. In AD 809, it became part of the Bulgarian state and because of its central location received the name Sredets.
