Ecdysozoa (/ ˌ ɛ k d ɪ s oʊ ˈ z oʊ ə /) is a group of protostome animals, including Arthropoda (insects, chelicerata (including arachnids), crustaceans, and myriapods), Nematoda, and several smaller phyla. The grouping of these animal phyla into a single clade was first proposed by Eernisse et al.

The Ecdysozoa is one of the two large subdivisions within the Protostomia, a group in which the mouth develops from the first opening to develop in the embryo. In turn, the Protostomia belongs to a larger group within the Animalia called the Bilateria, because these animals are bilaterally symmetrical, with a left and a right side to their bodies.
The Ecdysozoa is the second major clade within the Bilateria (Figures 1 and 6), and it includes a subset of the animal phyla generally considered part of the Protostomia. The key synapomorphy uniting the ecdysozoans is the possession of a cuticle that is periodically molted (a process named ecdysis).
