Brielle è un'antica cittadella fortificata olandese. Il suo nome deriva dal gallico brogilo, che significa "recinto" o terreno di caccia. Una prima carta costitutiva della città, risale al 1306. Fu a lungo sede dei conti di Voorne, finché questo feudo fu annesso all'Olanda nel 1371.
Brielle (pronounced ⓘ), also called Den Briel in Dutch and Brill in English, is a town and historic seaport in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, on the north side of the island of Voorne-Putten, at the mouth of the New Maas.

Brielle (en néerlandais : Brielle ou Den Briel, en anglais : Brill) est une commune et une ville des Pays-Bas de la province de Hollande-Méridionale. Située sur l'île de Voorne-Putten, la ville a donné son nom au lac de Brielle, le Brielse Meer. La commune de Brielle comprend également les villages Vierpolders et Zwartewaal.
Brielle is a historic stronghold town with some of the best-preserved fortifications in the Netherlands. The town has more than 400 heritage sites and monuments and has a place in the history books, because Brielle was freed from Spanish rule on 1 April 1572.
