Watts, però, non volle partecipare al progetto e raccomandò a Lucas Rick McCallum, un produttore londinese che aveva già accumulato diverse esperienze nel campo televisivo. Lucas incontrò McCallum nel marzo del 1990: gli spiegò i suoi piani per la serie e McCallum accettò entusiasta.
