It was commissioned by the de facto first British Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, in 1722, and is a key building in the history of Neo-Palladian architecture in England. It is a Grade I listed building surrounded by 1,000 acres (4.0 km 2) of parkland, and is a few miles from Sandringham House.
Vita e attività. Capo del Partito whig, dedicò il lungo periodo del suo governo al rafforzamento dell'autorità del parlamento di fronte al sovrano, giovandosi anche dell'ancora sensibile estraneità dei nuovi re della casa di Hannover alla vita e al costume inglese, che li spingeva a lasciare ampia libertà di movimento ai ministri e al governo.
