David with the Head of Goliath is a painting by the Italian Baroque artist Caravaggio. It is housed in the Galleria Borghese , Rome. [1] The painting, which was in the collection of Cardinal Scipione Borghese [a] in 1650, [3] has been dated as early as 1605 and as late as 1609–1610, with more recent scholars tending towards the former.
GALLERIA BORGHESE TELLS A MASTERPIECE: DAVID AND GOLIATH OF CARAVAGGIO. Executed in 1609-10, this is one of Caravaggio’s last paintings, and probably his most dramatic. It depicts the young David displaying the severed head – held by the hair – of the giant Goliath.

Secondo le interpretazioni date già nel Seicento, il volto di Golia è un autoritratto di Caravaggio, ormai malato e stanco, che morirà nel 1610.
Il David e Golia è un dipinto a olio su tela (116x91 cm) realizzato tra il 1597 ed il 1598 dal pittore italiano Caravaggio. È conservato nel Museo del Prado. Storia e descrizione. L'opera è documentata nelle collezioni reali spagnole nel 1781, all'epoca di re Carlo III.
