An aspiring starlet is dissuaded from taking her own life by a powerful gossip columnist who decides to take her on as his protege. In 1959 O'Brien appeared in a supporting role in one of his best-known movies as a police detective opposite George Raft in Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis. In his later years, O'Brien often worked in television.
