Gjilan (Albanian definite form: Gjilani) or Gnjilane (Serbian Cyrillic: Гњилане) is the fourth most populous city in Kosovo and it serves as both a municipality and the administrative center of the Gjilan District.

La città è un importante centro culturale ed economico della regione. Gjilan ha una storia antica e una ricca cultura. Alcune delle principali attrazioni della città includono il bazar (mercato) tradizionale, la moschea del XVI secolo e la fortezza medievale.
Gjilan is a big town in the East of Kosovo. Serbians do write Gnjilane. The city has around 90.000 inhabitants and is not that far from the capital Pristina. Just like in many other towns of Kosovo, Albanians are the vast ethnical majority. A small percentage has the Serbian ethnicity. Some other minorities are present there too.
