The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission (HR/VP) is the chief co-ordinator and representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) within the European Union (EU).
The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (High Representative) is in charge of coordinating and carrying out the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), as well as the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
Since 2006, the EU High Representative has led diplomatic efforts between the E3/EU+3 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States) and Iran, which led to the conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program (JCPOA) in Vienna on 14 July 2015.
