Marschner's 'Der Vampyr' has been thoroughly modernised and revamped, and with the nudity, sexual scenes, violence and crude language it's more explicit. However, despite how this all sounds, reading about it is enough to make you think this could be a disaster, this all adds to the atmosphere and the opera's allure, which is actually entertaining and adjusts well to being modernised.
10 feb 2007 · In 1992 BBC TV hit on a clever idea. They would serialize an opera over five half-hour segments as if it were a soap opera. The work chosen was Heinrich Marschner's DER VAMPYR (1827). Forwarded in time to modern day London, it features a thoroughly updated libretto by Charles (Phantom Of The Opera) Hart.

The new English libretto was written by Charles Hart, based on a story by Janet Street-Porter and Nigel Finch, which was based on the original libretto by Wilhelm August Wohlbrück, which was based on John Polidori's short story "The Vampyre."
