Brought up by her father, she had a poor relationship with her mother, who arranged for Blanche to be married to an older man. Blanche ran away and met Buck Barrow.
Marvin Ivan " Buck " Barrow (March 14, 1903 – July 29, 1933) was a member of the Barrow Gang. He was the older brother of the gang's leader, Clyde Barrow. He and his wife, Blanche, were wounded in a gun battle with police four months after they joined up with Bonnie and Clyde. Buck died of his injuries soon afterward.

She was the only child of Matthew Caldwell and Lillian Pond, who divorced when she was young. She was raised by her father, a logger and farmer, who was also a devoutly religious man.
