16 nov 2016 · Heartfall has lots of supposedly meaningful dialogue about intuition, logic, hallucinations and Chinese chess, as well as repeated references to Nietzsche’s aphorism that if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss will gaze back at you; but the film ends up as a series of lacklustre dialogue scenes between Xie and Liu with occasional bits of average action inbetween.

9 mag 2017 · Wu Pinru certainly seems to think Heartfall Arises is an intelligent and meaningful film, and to be fair, there’s certainly a lot going on, with plenty of plot twists, drama and pseudo-science about inherited cellular memory from organ transplants and hypnotism.
Director Wu Pinru makes his debut with the big budget psychological thriller Heartfall Arises, produced by Wilson Yip.The film has a couple of award-winning megastar leads in Sean Lau Ching Wan and Nicholas Tse, teaming up again four years after the popular thriller The Bullet Vanishes, joined by Tong Liya, Mavis Fan, Babyjohn Choi and Vengo Gao Weiguang.
