  3. Ioannis Metaxas (1871–1941) was a Greek general, statesman, and dictator. Born on the island of Ithaca on 12 April 1871, he graduated from the Military Academy in 1890. In the Greek-Turkish war of 1897 he served in the staff of the heir to the throne, Constantine.
