After leaving the Dominicans he married a former nun, and was excommunicated. Then he went to Strasbourg where he set up Bible reading classes and presented the Reformation in 1529.

  6. Bucer finally made his way to Strasbourg and quickly became a leading proponent of reform in the city. He was named pastor of St. Aurelia’s in 1524, serving until 1531. We wrote an evangelical order for mass in 1525, as well as several catechisms for use in instruction. He also became a prodigious biblical scholar during this period.

Martin Bucer, one of the principal pastors and theologians in Strasbourg, played a major role in the continental Reformation and a subordinate, but still important, role in the English Reformation. His efforts to achieve reconciliation between Protestants and Catholics and among the various, often quarrelsome, Protestant communities were especially influential.
