Pianoforte. Volunteers è un brano composto e inciso dai Jefferson Airplane, contenuto nell'album omonimo pubblicato nel 1969. Sesto lavoro in studio per la band statunitense, è uno dei loro più grandi successi commerciali, ha come temi centrali la dura condanna alla guerra e ai poteri forti che governano gli Stati.
Upon conclusion "Volunteers" is a relatively strong release by Jefferson Airplane, although I could have done without the country influences and the piano parts. The album marked the end of the classic era lineup of the band and it would be 2 years before the next album was released and at that point the band were more or less disintegrating and not a well functioning unit anymore.
The last Airplane album of the 60's is one of their finest. "Good Shepherd", "Hey Fredrick", "Eskimo Blue Day" and the title track are highlights, but there's not really a dud here. Easily the best sounding Airplane album as well, this pressing has a full, dynamic and rich sound, guitars and vocals are very crisp and clear, with plenty of depth to the bass and drums.
1973 erschien eine Quadrofonieabmischung des Albums. Die CD-Veröffentlichung von 2004 enthält zusätzlich fünf Liveaufnahmen aus dem Fillmore East (Good Sheperd, Somebody to Love, Plastic Fantastic Lover, Wooden Ships, Volunteers) und im Jahr 2009 erschien das Album zusammen dem kompletten Auftritt der Band beim Woodstock-Festival unter dem Titel Jefferson Airplane Woodstock Experience.
Volunteers era la canzone che dava il titolo ad uno degli album più significativi dei Jefferson Airplane, pubblicato nell'aprile del 1969 e veicolo per la grande popolarità del gruppo in USA a cavallo tra i '60 e i '70.
