‘House Calls’ is a charming as hell romantic comedy. It’s a shame it has no digital presence, and I had to rent it from Seattle’s Scarecrow Video. Walter Matthau at almost 60 and Glenda Jackson in her early 40’s, have a meet cute when, Matthau a widowed surgeon, makes an executive decision about Jackson’s care, overstepping his boss, Art Carney.

That's where the similarities end, though. "House Calls" is just sheer fun watching 2 pros like Matthau and Jackson hit it off and seem completely natural while they're at it. I saw this film in the theater in 1978 (at the ripe old age of 18) and it took me another 20 years to get all of the jokes.
