Ellis Paul aveva esordito, da musicista in regime di autoproduzione, nel 1989; fu proprio in quel periodo, però, che il suo Stories (1994), album peraltro bellissimo, venne notato dalla Philo, tra i "santuari" discografici del folk nord-americano, e quindi ristampato sotto la sua egida e in contemporanea distribuito, con buoni riscontri, anche in Europa.
