The city is under construction and there is a strange eerie nature to how life continues even in its simplest forms. Octopus surfaced during trauma, in the aftermath of the cataclysmic Port of Beirut explosion. The film silently navigates that unfolding, giving space to the myriad of existential questions birthed by the enormity of the happening.

Last week, he and Hassan were about to start filming his fourth feature before things went badly awry – their director of photography was about to fly to Lebanon from Australia when his father fell seriously ill. As a result, his wife, who was due to be the lead star, had to withdraw.
Karim KASSEM (1990, Lebanon) is a photographer, writer and filmmaker. He was born and raised in Beirut. Before discovering his love for film, Kassem worked as a DJ and musician. He moved to New York, where he became involved in filmmaking through directing commercials and music videos.
