28 nov 2020 · The film follows the story of Bernard (pronounced in the comically rubbish British manner, ‘ Ber-nud,’ not the pretentious-sounding American ‘Berr-nard ’), who gets fired and loses his girlfriend to his shitty best mate all in a matter of hours, before promptly getting blown up and landing in the hospital with a few minor scrapes and “one severely singed testicle.”
Bernard Bottle is having a bad day: He’s been sacked, jilted by his girlfriend, and his apartment’s been stripped bare. All he has left is an old Arabic lamp housing a genie who grants him an infinite number of wishes.

It's terrific. A poor nebbish, Bernard, whose life is at an all-time low, discovers a genie in a lamp, and once he convinces it not to kill him, the two become great friends. In the process the Bernard learns a bit about history, and the genie learns about the modern world.
