Bucer finally made his way to Strasbourg and quickly became a leading proponent of reform in the city. He was named pastor of St. Aurelia’s in 1524, serving until 1531. We wrote an evangelical order for mass in 1525, as well as several catechisms for use in instruction. He also became a prodigious biblical scholar during this period.

Bucer recognized that for the church to be strong, each of her members must work toward mutual edification rather than battle against one another. The city of Strasbourg, which was tolerant in religious matters, had moved towards the Reformation very early on, particularly due to the influence of the former Dominican monk.
His father was a barrel-maker and his mother a midwife. Martin Bucer became a Dominican and studied theology for ten years. He met Luther in 1518 and adopted his ideas. After leaving the Dominicans he married a former nun, and was excommunicated. Then he went to Strasbourg where he set up Bible reading classes and presented the Reformation in 1529.
Biography. Martin Bucer was born in Germany in 1491. Bucer joined the Dominican Order but he was convicted by the teachings of Martin Luther and became part of the Reformation. His “reformation work” resulted in his excommunication from the Catholic Church. His teachings also resulted in his seeking safer places to reside due to persecution.
