Już rok później premierę miał, klasyczny dziś, brytyjsko-francuski film na podstawie powieści, a w 1997 r. na ekrany kin weszła kolejna, mocno zmodyfikowana, wersja tej historii pt. Szakal, z Brucem Willisem w roli tytułowej.
Biografie. Frederick Forsyth, geboren 1938 in Ashford/Kent, war mit neunzehn Jahren der jüngste Jetpilot der Royal Air Force. Nach seinem Ausscheiden war er als Auslandskorrespondent in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern tätig. Ab 1965 arbeitete er als Fernsehreporter der BBC unter anderem in Westafrika. Er lebt heute in der Nähe von London.
Jeugd 1938-1960. Frederick Forsyth werd geboren in Groot-Brittannië in Ashford, Kent. Hij werd geplaatst op de beroemde Engelse Tonbridge School, een kostschool die deel uitmaakt van de Etongroup. Na Tonbridge studeerde Forsyth aan de Universiteit van Granada in Spanje. Al na vijf maanden staakte hij zijn studie en keerde terug naar Engeland.
