About Juzo Itami. Born 1933 in Kyoto, his real name was Yoshihiro Ikeuchi. His father was movie director Mansaku Itami. Moved to Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture after the death of his father. After graduating from high school, he moved to Tokyo, worked in Shintoho’s editorial department, and then became a commercial designer.

Jūzō Itami (1933–1997) was a Japanese actor and, later, a popular modern screenwriter and film director. Many critics came to regard him as Japan's greatest director since Akira Kurosawa. His ten feature-length movies and one short film, all of which he wrote himself, are comic satires on elements of Japanese culture.
C’est une personnalité très connue au Japon tant par sa carrière d’acteur que par ses activités d’essayiste talentueux, de traducteur d’ouvrages de langue anglaise et d’animateur d’émissions de télévision. Réalisé en 1984, Ososhiki est son premier film. Juzo Itami s’est suicidé le 20 décembre 1997.
