21 nov 2016 · After the fall of communism, Wajda was finally able to make a film (2007’s Katyn) about the atrocity and the suppression of the truth over culpability by the Soviet authorities. Wajda himself had joined the Polish resistance at age 16 and served in the Home Army before he embarked on an artistic road, studying painting and entering the famed Łódź Film School.

2. Kanal (1957) “Kanal” is a 1957 Polish war drama film directed by Andrzej Wajda and it is not directed by Kaige Chen. The film is set during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, and tells the story of a group of Polish resistance fighters as they attempt to escape the city through the city’s sewers, or “kanals”, while being pursued by German forces.
The film follows young social climber Rafał Olbromski (Daniel Olbrychski) in the lead up to and during the time of Napoleonic Poland. In Part 1 of Wajda's adaptation, Rafał is cast out by his father after losing a horse on route from a romantic tryst with a young woman named Helena.
