28 lug 2024 · Het verhaal van Out of the Past is best interessant, maar de uitwerking is niet echt boeiend. Vooral Robert Mitchum moet de film dragen, de rest doet het toch te middelmatig. Het lukt de film niet altijd om de aandacht vast te houden en de personages zijn weinig boeiend. De beelden zijn wel mooi, maar ook niet zo opvallend.
The big problem I have with Out of the Past – really, the only problem – is that its script is so laconically witty that its plot sometimes veers into incoherence. Some time after the 1-hour mark, I paused the film just to reorient myself and keep track of who had what motive to double cross whom, with the resulting latticework being worthy of a spider's web.
