  2. 23 feb 2012 · When I play completely solo I do a lot of finger picking, which is always challenging and fun. When I play as a duo with my buddy Barry Mitterhoff, who is a fabulous mandolin player , I tend to do a lot of rhythm, strummy things because the mandolin is essentially a lead instrument and Barry is a great soloist. That’s endlessly fun for me.

  3. These two different levels of band commitment have had quite a contrasting effect on Mitterhoff's personal life. When the initial decade or more of almost constant touring and involvement with Skyline ended, the mandolinist began expanding his music career so that he might become known as a versatile mandolinist ready to deal with jobs in a wide variety of styles.
