Marianelli had already written scores for several films and TV projects, including movies such as Ailsa and Pandaemonium, when director Joe Wright contacted him about scoring his 2005 film Pride & Prejudice.

He has composed the soundtracks for The Brothers Grimm (2005), Pride & Prejudice (2005), and Atonement (2007), the last two for which he received Oscar nominations for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score.
