AFI’s lecturers tested several potential remote learning solutions before they found Frankie. Frankie’s browser-based, synchronized video review and approval platform quickly became the staple for remotely teaching all six production disciplines at the AFI Conservatory.

The AFI Conservatory offers a Master of Fine Arts degree in six disciplines: Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting.
Admission to AFI Conservatory is highly selective, with a maximum of 140 graduates per year. In 2013, Emmy and Oscar-winning director, producer, and screenwriter James L. Brooks (As Good as It Gets, Broadcast News, Terms of Endearment) joined as the artistic director of the AFI Conservatory where he provides leadership for the film program.

I was accepted into the Cinematography program in fall 2016. I also was over the moon and so proud. There was a lot of turmoil going on with the conservatory at that time, #HollywoodSoWhite, #MeToo, and the changing of the guard with the dean, so there was quite a bit of uncertainty with how the curriculum and class environment was going to be.
