Ministry of Defence (MoD) Formed in Apr 1997 as a Joint Services helicopter flying training service, under the Private Finance Initiative. Civilian contractors run a fleet of civilian owned, military registered (COMAR) training airframes under contract to MoD. Covers basic single engine to advanced multi-engine & SAR training.
Low Flying Area 9 (LFA 9), covering all of Shropshire and the borders of adjacent counties, is a dedicated helicopter training area for military helicopters. A map of Low Flying Area 9 Intensive low-level helicopter activity, often down to ground level, takes place within the area between Monday to Friday, 0830 hours until 1730 hours with night flying occurring at periodic intervals.
The Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury, a Royal Air Force station near Shrewsbury, England, trains aircrew from all three of the Armed Forces. 23 ago 2019 · ON 23 August 2019, a total of 22 tri-Service aircrew graduated from the Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) at RAF Shawbury.The parade celebrated both the graduation of the first 13 pilots to complete their training within the Rotary Wing UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) as well as the graduation of 9 helicopter Rearcrew.

DHFS Squirrel Helicopter In the second half of this episode I talk to the squadron leaders of the 2 squadrons that teach single engine military helicopter flying, both basic and advanced, here at the Defence Helicopter Flying School.
As well as gaining flying skills helicopter pupils also take survival and leadership courses. All helicopter training is carried out at the Defence Helicopter Flying School, RAF Shawbury, which provides instruction for pupils from all three Services using the the Bell Griffin HT1 and Eurocopter Squirrel HT1.
