He then had a gap of around six years before landing his second acting work in the 2019 film Tolkien. Ty later gained prominence as Tom Gresham from the Fox TV series War of the Worlds.

2022 trat Tennant in House of the Dragon, der Prequel-Serie zu Game of Thrones, als Aegon Targaryen II. auf, erneut in der jüngeren Version zu Glynn-Carney.
