Fichtner was born on November 27, 1956 in Mitchel Air Force Base, New York. [1] He is of German ancestry. He was raised in Cheektowaga, New York. Fichtner studied at Maryvale High School, at the Farmingdale State College and at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He was married to Betsy Aidem until they divorced in 1998. They had one child.
