Tabori was born in Malibu, California, the son of American film director Don Siegel and Swedish-American actress Viveca Lindfors. Within two years, Tabori had made his NYC stage debut and frequently appeared in Shakespearean productions during the late 60s and 70s. He won acclaim for several off-Broadway performances, particularly in "The Wager" (1974-75) and "The Common Pursuit" (1986-87). The latter co-starred his future wife, British actress Judy Geeson.
His parents divorced when he was barely a year old and his mother subsequently married Hungarian writer/director George Tabori. Kristoffer would use the name "Tabori" for his own. Kristoffer started making the theater rounds in the late 60s, taking his first official stage bow with "The Merchant of Venice" at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in 1966.
