Chesney starred in Buddy’s song in 1991, along side Roger Daltrey, Sharon Duce, and Michael Elphick. The film is based on the 1987 novel by Nigel Hinton. The film follows a teenage boy, Buddy Clark, who is determined to make it as a pop start, aided by his father Terry.
Suddenly it occurred to me that when Terry went to prison Buddy would probably learn to play the guitar and send a tape to cheer his dad up. It was the start of Buddy’s Song. Hinton followed up the televised version with a second novel Buddy’s Song (1987) which became the basis of the film of the same name was released in 1991.

It is difficult to see characters in the film and thus hard to be involved in any drama in their lives. The music is OK if you like soft, 1990's pop-rock stuff. There is no song in the main film that is as catchy as Hawkes debut hit, but even that is showing it's age now.
