Über ihren Mann kam Amalie von Gallitzin in Kontakt mit dem führenden Aufklärer Voltaire und den französischen Enzyklopädisten Denis Diderot und D’Alembert. Diderot wirkte durch seine Schriften persönlich auf die Fürstin ein. Am 11. Juni 1773 verließ Diderot Paris zu seiner einzigen längeren Reise mit dem Ziel Sankt Petersburg.

Princess Adelheid Amalie Gallitzin (also known as Amalia Samuilovna Golitsyna or in Russian as Амалия Самуиловна Голицына; 28 August 1748 – 17 April 1806) was a German salonist. She was the daughter of the Prussian Field Marshal Count Samuel von Schmettau and the mother of Prince Demetrius Augustine Gallitzin.
