Al-Hussein ibn Ali [n 1], dit aussi Sayyid al-Chouhada ((ar) سَيِّد الشُهَداء, prince des martyrs) [1], est un révolutionnaire, né le 10 janvier 626 à Médine et mort le 10 octobre 680 lors de la bataille de Kerbala, est le fils d'Ali ibn Abi Talib et de Fatima Zahra, et par celle-ci il est aussi le petit-fils de Mahomet.
