20 mar 2023 · Erdet Wenxiu’s decision to divorce was not easy. In this article, I will detail the Imperial Consort’s life in the Forbidden City to the day of her expulsion. On 20 December 1909, Erdet Wenxiu was born in Beijing. She was from a prominent Manchu family. Her father was Duanhong, and her mother was Lady Jiang.
In 1931, his second wife Wenxiu, the consort Shu, divorced him due to 'emptiness of life for nine years'. Puyi vented on his anger at Wenxiu's divorce on Wanrong. Puyi's ignorance and hatred and the atrocities of the Japanese left Wanrong addicted to opium and her mental faculties gradually became abnormal.

Puyi blamed Wanrong, and wrote in his memoir The Last Manchu: The Autobiography of Henry Pu Yi, Last Emperor of China that he began resenting Wanrong for driving Wenxiu away. Puyi almost completely stopped talking to her after Wenxiu left.
