She and Otto Hahn were among the first to isolate the isotope protactinium-231, and with Hahn and Fritz Strassmann she investigated the products of neutron bombardment of uranium.

Dopo aver conseguito nel 1905 il dottorato a Vienna, dal 1926 al 1933 fu docente nell'univ. di Berlino, dove lavorò sotto la guida di M.
