We are delighted to welcome visiting choirs to the Chapel Royal on certain days throughout the year. Our 2024 programme is currently as follows: Services of Choral Evensong. Saturday 27th April 4.30pm – The Charter Choir, Homerton College, Cambridge. Wednesday 1st May 4.30pm – The Choir of Godolphin & Latymer School.
Royal events at the chapel. Many Royal weddings have taken place in the Chapel, including that of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg on 10 February 1840. Their eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal, was also married there in 1858 to Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia, later the German Emperor Friedrich III.
The choir of the King’s Chapel of the Savoy is a fine male-voice choir in the English cathedral tradition, with six professional men’s voices joined by up to 21 boy trebles aged from 10 upwards. They sing at the Sunday morning services every week, as well as Christmas, Easter and a few additional services such as royal events and weddings.
10 mag 2023 · The Chapel Royal dates back to 1254 when it stood in Whitehall. Building began on a new chapel next to St. James’s Palace in 1538, where the Chapel Royal has stood proudly ever since. Wednesday 12 June (from 2pm) Wednesday 26 June (all day) Thursday 4 July (from 2pm) The Chapel Royal is a living, vibrant church with heavenly music, located at the heart of the historic palace. Everyone is welcome to attend the sung religious services at the Chapel Royal or to visit the place where Kings and Queens have worshipped for centuries.
19 dic 2022 · The Choir of Westminster Abbey, who were also joined by The Choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, performed in an emotional service led by the Dean of Westminster. The Choir of Westminster Abbey is a world-renowned, all-male vocal ensemble, founded in the late 14th century when Westminster Abbey was a Benedictine monastery.
The choir consists of six Gentlemen-in-Ordinary who are professional singers, and ten boys who have scholarships to go to the City of London School where they are called Queen's Scholars. The composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who was Master of the Queen's Music, worked closely with the Chapel Royal, composing a new carol for them every Christmas.
