Yves Allégret (13 October 1905 – 31 January 1987) [2] was a French film director, often working in the film noir genre. [1] He was born in Asnières-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine and died in Paris. [3] He was an assistant to film directors such as his brother Marc Allégret, Augusto Genina, and Jean Renoir. [4]
Biography. Born in Basel, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland, he was the elder brother of Yves Allégret. Marc was educated to be a lawyer in Paris, but while accompanying his lover [2] André Gide on a trip in 1927 to the Congo in Africa, he recorded the trip on film, [3] after which he chose to pursue a career in the motion picture industry.
Élie Allégret fut étudiant à la faculté de théologie protestante de Paris. En 1885 , il fut invité par Juliette Rondeaux, veuve de Paul Gide (professeur de droit à l' Université de Paris et mort en 1880 ) et mère d' André Gide , au château de La Roque-Baignard pour devenir le précepteur de son fils et diriger à la fois ses lectures et son éducation religieuse.
