Nantyglo (from Welsh Nant-y-glo 'brook of coal') is a village in the ancient parish of Aberystruth and county of Monmouth situated deep within the South Wales Valleys between Blaina and Brynmawr in the county borough of Blaenau Gwent.

Il distretto nacque nel 1974 dall'unione dei distretti di Abertillery, Ebbw Vale, Nantyglo and Blaina, Tredegare Brynmawr e fece parte fino al 1996 della contea di Gwent. Dal primo aprile del 1996 è una unitary authority nata in attuazione del Local Government (Wales) Act del 1994 .
