Coleman Randolph Hawkins, soprannominato anche Hawk o Bean (St. Joseph, 21 novembre 1904 – New York, 19 maggio 1969), è stato un sassofonista statunitense di musica jazz. Coleman Hawkins è universalmente riconosciuto come il padre del sassofono jazz, e come il musicista che ha contribuito all'identificazione tra jazz e sassofono.
Coleman Randolph Hawkins (November 21, 1904 – May 19, 1969), nicknamed "Hawk" and sometimes "Bean", was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. One of the first prominent jazz musicians on his instrument, as Joachim E. Berendt explained: "there were some tenor players before him, but the instrument was not an acknowledged jazz horn". [2]
Coleman Hawkins was an American jazz musician whose improvisational mastery of the tenor saxophone, which had previously been viewed as little more than a novelty, helped establish it as one of the most popular instruments in jazz.
