Gary James Kemp è un musicista e attore britannico, noto per essere stato chitarrista e tastierista degli Spandau Ballet, gruppo musicale leader del cosiddetto movimento new romantic.
Gary James Kemp (born 16 October 1959) is an English songwriter, musician and actor, best known as the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and principal songwriter for the new wave band Spandau Ballet.
La storia del gruppo inizia nel 1976 (i primi anni si chiamavano «The Cut») con Gary Kemp ( cantante /compositore) e Steve Norman ( chitarra, in seguito sassofono e percussioni ). Gary e Steve frequentavano entrambi la Dame Alice Owen's School, ad Islington (che successivamente fu spostata a Potters Bar), ed erano amici intimi.
Gary Kemp was also the band's songwriter. Their debut single "To Cut a Long Story Short" reached No. 5 in the UK in 1980 and was the first of ten UK top-10 singles. The band peaked in popularity in 1983 with the album True, as its title track reached No. 1 in the UK and the top 5 in the US.
